Accessibility
NGfL Cymru complies with all Priority 1 accessibility checkpoints across its web presence, as established in the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) web accessibility initiative (WAI). The WAI promotes a high degree of usability and accessibility for people with disabilities. The W3C promotes good practice amongst the web community via initiatives like WAI (http://www.w3.org/WAI/) Web Contact Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.
We are currently looking at Priority 2 accessibility checkpoints in the WAI guidelines so that NGfL Cymru achieves a 'Double-A' status for accessibliity. In the meantime, NGfL Cymru has taken steps to assist in the accessiblity of its site and content primarily by ensuring the site is still usable if styling is turned off in the browser. NGfL Cymru has also provided an 'Easy access' version of the site which removes unnecessary images and represents the content of the page, prioritising content from the top down, to help improve the experience of the site when using screen readers and other technologies.
It is possible that some of our older pages might not currently conform to these standards. However, we are working towards ensuring that all future web pages are compliant with W3C guidelines for accessibility.
The website is designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:
- Pages are designed so that they can be viewed at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
- Page structure is conveyed using header elements.
- The use of stylesheets and relative font sizes on all text with the exception of graphical text.
- Text can be increased or decreased in size by using the "view" option in your browser.
- Images that convey important information have alternative text. Where an image is used for a decorative purpose the alternative text will be left blank.
- No information is exclusively conveyed using colour.
- A site map is available to provide information about the layout of the website.
